United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra to Launch UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund in Response to COVID-19

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) announces the launch of the UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund to support local work in helping meet the increase of basic needs by local families and individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. To donate online visit uwnns.org/EAF or text “NVNOW” to 91999.
Key funders to the launch of the UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund are the NV Energy Foundation, Microsoft Reno, and Bank of America. A special thank you to Plumas Bank for setting up an account, free of bank charges, to ensure 100% of donations to the fund go directly to northern Nevadans. UWNNS has identified that it’s critical that the organizations offering basic needs have additional resources to respond to this challenging time.

“We know our community is facing uncertain times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an organization, we are working with the community to respond to immediate needs,” said Kelly Stevens, Community Impact Director of UWNNS. “Our goal with this fund is to support those northern Nevadans most impacted by increasing funding to programs already working at the frontlines of providing basic needs.”

“Our local United Way has stepped up as a leader during this difficult and unprecedented time,” said Carolyn Barbash, NV Energy Vice President Community Relations and Business Development. “Many families and organizations who will benefit from this fund could be devastated, and this will provide a valuable resource to many. We are so proud to partner with our United Way and for their vision and quick response.”

“During this unprecedented time, it is critically important for Microsoft to support globally, but also in our local communities,” said Carey Serfontein, GM and Site Lead, Microsoft’s Americas Operations Center in Reno. “We are supportive of this Emergency Assistance Fund led by our community partner, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, to provide aid to those northern Nevadans impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.”

Applications for qualifying organizations will be available next week and announced on uwnns.org/EAF.

In addition, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada has established the COVID- 19 Relief Fund to support other community needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic in northern Nevada. We stand together in supporting one another’s efforts to aid our community.
