Thursday news recap: new non-stop flight through Reno, unemployment rate continues to fall

  • JetBlue announced it will be providing non-stop flights from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport to Long Beach Airport starting August 15 this year.  This is the second recent expansion of non-stop flights by JetBlue at Reno/Tahoe International Airport, with the company adding direct flights to New York last year.  The flights are planned to depart Reno at 2:15 p.m., and returning flights from Long Beach will depart at 12:15 p.m.  To promote this new direct flight, JetBlue is offering rates of $59 for one-way flights to Long Beach, which ends today (March 24).
  • The unemployment rate for Nevada decreased to 5.9 percent in February, which is the first time the state has dipped below 6 percent in the past eight years.  The new statistics, provided by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, also indicate the rate of long-term joblessness for Nevada is less than 2 percent.  As the unemployment rate fell, the state saw a seasonally-adjusted increase of 1,700 jobs in February compared to January.  Dating back to last year,  the state experienced a 2.3 percent growth rate, equating to 28,700 jobs.
