EDAWN announces opening of distribution center for Better World Books

 RENO, NEV. (Jan. 14, 2016) – The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced the opening of Better World Books‘ new 140K square foot distribution center in Reno. Also known for its literacy and environmental initiatives, Better World Books plans to hire 100 employees by April 1st.  This announcement took place at EDAWN’s Investor and Community Luncheon held today at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa where more than 600 local business and community leaders were in attendance.
Better World Books, founded in 2002 is an online book store that carries over 8 million new and used book titles. As a B Corporation, the company has raised more than $22 million dollars to support literacy, libraries and education, has donated over 18 million books, and has reused or recycled 209 million books saving them from landfill. BWB harnesses the power of commerce in a socially and environmentally beneficial way to change the world, hence the name Better World Books.
“BWB is excited to expand our distribution network in the Western U.S.  with the opening of our third facility located on Industry Circle. This expansion will help us to deliver a better experience for our customers in the region.  We look forward to collaborating with local area schools and libraries to reduce waste and spread literacy and have been warmly welcomed by the Washoe County School System and Washoe County Library System, thanks to the efforts of EDAWN,” said Christine Putman, Director of West Coast Operations. “Our hope is to also develop partnership programs that will translate into funding for education, literacy and libraries in the Greater Reno-Sparks area and beyond.”

Several local business partners that were involved in working with Better World Books in their decision to expand in Reno include, the City of Reno-Bill Thomas, NV Energy-Jeff Brigger, Reno Property Management-Bryan Gardner, NAI Alliance-Michael Nevis/David Simonsen, Washoe County Library System-Scottie Wallace, and Washoe County Schools-David Lasic, Sean McCaffrey, and Scott Bailey.
